Golden raisins are dried grapes (Vitis vinifera) produced primarily from seedless green or white grape varieties, particularly Thompson Seedless grapes, grown mainly in California. Unlike natural sun-dried raisins that darken to brown, golden raisins are treated with an antioxidant (typically potassium sorbate) and dried mechanically or through specific sun-drying protocols that preserve their lighter amber-to-golden color. The grapes are dried for 2-3 weeks, resulting in shriveled fruit with concentrated sweetness and a characteristic plump, tender texture.
