ProducePeak season in the Northern Hemisphere is late spring through fall (May-October), while winter months see increased supply from Southern Hemisphere producers. Year-round availability exists in most developed markets due to global production.

Rich in vitamin C, dietary fiber, and bromelain enzyme; also contains manganese, thiamine, and antioxidants. Low in calories while providing natural sugars and anti-inflammatory compounds.

About

Pineapple (Ananas comosus) is a tropical fruit native to South America, belonging to the Bromeliaceae family. The plant is herbaceous and produces a single large compound fruit with a distinctive waxy, hexagonal-patterned yellow or golden-brown rind and a leafy crown. The flesh is firm, juicy, and pale yellow to golden, with a characteristic sweet-tart flavor profile dominated by tropical fruit notes and subtle floral undertones. Major cultivars include the 'Smooth Cayenne', 'Red Spanish', and 'Abacaxi' varieties, which vary in size, sweetness, and appearance.

Culinary Uses

Pineapple serves as a versatile ingredient across global cuisines, consumed fresh, grilled, canned, or as juice. In tropical and Southeast Asian cuisines, it appears in savory dishes such as Thai pineapple fried rice and curries, while in Western cuisines it is primarily used in desserts, beverages, and as a garnish. The fruit's natural enzymes (particularly bromelain) make it a common meat tenderizer in marinades. Pineapple also features prominently in Hawaiian cuisine and is used in sweet-and-sour preparations, glazes, and compotes.
