Hard-cooked eggs are chicken eggs that have been boiled in their shells until both the albumen (white) and yolk have solidified completely. The cooking process, typically 10-14 minutes in simmering water depending on egg size, causes the proteins to denature and coagulate, transforming the translucent raw egg into opaque, firm structures. The yolk develops a pale yellow exterior with a gray-green ring (caused by ferrous sulfide formation when overcooked) and remains creamy in the center if timed properly. Hard-cooked eggs are a fundamental preparation used across global cuisines and serve as a foundational ingredient for numerous dishes.

Culinary Uses
