Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

Cream together the fat and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the molasses and sweet milk until well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, cloves, and soda.

Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.

Stir in the oatmeal and chopped raisins until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centres still appear slightly soft.

Cool the cookies on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
