Combine molasses, butter, and lard in a large bowl and mix until blended.

Stir in sugar and milk until the mixture is smooth and well incorporated.

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove.

Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the molasses mixture until a stiff dough forms.

Roll dough into 1-inch balls and flatten slightly on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers remain slightly soft.
