Hearty Meat Pizza

Combine all-purpose flour, active dry yeast, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add warm water and cooking oil, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes until doubled in size.

Brown the ground beef and/or bulk Italian sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Drain excess fat.

Add the chopped onion to the meat and cook for 2 minutes until softened. Stir in the pepperoni slices and Canadian-style bacon pieces, cooking for 1 minute to warm through.

Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and the remaining chopped onion, cooking for 2 minutes until fragrant and softened.

Stir in the cut-up canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, bay leaf, basil, oregano, crushed fennel seed (if using), sugar, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook uncovered for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to meld flavors.

Preheat oven to 400°F.

Press the risen dough into a greased 12-inch pizza pan, building up the edges slightly to form a crust.

Spread half the tomato sauce mixture evenly over the pizza crust. Distribute the meat mixture (beef, sausage, pepperoni, and bacon) over the sauce.

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the meat layer, then top with green sweet pepper. Drizzle with the remaining tomato sauce and finish with grated Parmesan cheese.

Bake in the preheated 400°F oven for 25 to 30 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
