Heat butter or margarine in a large skillet over medium heat until melted.

Add chopped onion and diced green bell pepper to the skillet, stirring occasionally until softened, about 5 minutes.

Stir in the canned tomatoes, salt, sugar, chili powder, and garlic powder, combining well.

Simmer the tomato mixture uncovered for 5 minutes to blend the flavors.

Slice the frankfurters into 1/4-inch rounds and add them to the skillet.
