About

Cointreau is a clear, colorless triple sec liqueur produced in Angers, France, since 1875 by the Cointreau family and now owned by the Rémy Cointreau group. It is crafted from a maceration and distillation of sweet and bitter orange peels sourced from Haiti, Spain, and Italy, combined with a neutral spirit base and other botanicals. The spirit is characterized by its bright, intense orange flavor profile with subtle citrus complexity and mild sweetness, delivering approximately 40% alcohol by volume. Unlike darker orange liqueurs (such as Curaçao), Cointreau's clear appearance and refined taste make it a category-defining premium triple sec.

Culinary Uses

Cointreau functions both as an aperitif and as a key cocktail ingredient across global mixology traditions. It is essential in classic cocktails including the Margarita, Cosmopolitan, Sidecar, and Cointreau itself (served neat or on ice). The liqueur is also employed in dessert preparations, including soufflés, glazes for pastries, and fruit compotes, where its aromatic orange notes complement sweet and rich ingredients. In culinary applications beyond beverages, it enhances sauces for duck and poultry, and pairs well with chocolate-based desserts.
