Ingredients

  • a few pepper berries

Method

Slice the medium cabbage thinly into thin shreds, discarding the outer leaves and core.

Heat the lard in a large, heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat until it melts and begins to shimmer.

Add the sliced cabbage to the hot lard and stir well to coat all the shreds evenly.

Crush the pepper berries lightly using a mortar and pestle or the flat of a knife blade to release their flavor.

Sprinkle the crushed pepper berries over the cabbage and stir to distribute evenly throughout.

Cook the cabbage over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it softens and begins to turn golden at the edges.
