Grate the malanga and pumpkin (if using) into a clean bowl, squeezing out excess moisture with a cloth to ensure drier fritters.

Add the beaten egg to the grated malanga mixture, stirring well to combine evenly throughout.

Season the batter with salt, pepper, and hot pepper to taste, mixing thoroughly until all ingredients are incorporated.

Heat oil in a deep skillet or frying pan to 350°F (175°C), or until a small piece of batter sizzles immediately upon contact.

Using a spoon or small ice cream scoop, carefully drop portions of the batter into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.

Fry the acra until golden brown on the first side, about 2–3 minutes, then flip and fry the other side until equally golden.
