Old-fashioned Baked Rice Pudding

Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C) and lightly butter a 2-quart baking dish.

Combine uncooked rice, sugar, and salt in the prepared baking dish.

Pour the scalded milk over the rice mixture and stir well to combine and distribute the rice evenly.

Add vanilla extract and dot the top with butter or margarine, breaking it into small pieces across the surface.

Bake uncovered for 50 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent the rice from settling to the bottom.

Stir in the raisins and continue baking for 10 more minutes until the pudding is creamy and the rice is tender.
