Ingredients

Method

1
In a small mixing bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of softened butter, 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg. Blend together thoroughly until a smooth, creamy spiced butter mixture forms.
3 minutes
2
Heat water or apple cider in a small saucepan or kettle until it reaches a near-boil, approximately 200°F (93°C). Do not allow it to reach a full rolling boil.
5 minutes
3
Warm a heatproof mug by filling it with hot water and letting it sit for about 30 seconds, then carefully discard the water. This step ensures the drink stays warm longer.
1 minutes
4
Place 1 to 2 heaping teaspoons of the spiced butter mixture into the warmed mug. Add 2 ounces of dark or spiced rum.
1 minutes
5
Pour approximately 6 ounces of the hot water or cider into the mug over the butter and rum. Stir vigorously until the butter is fully melted and emulsified into the liquid.
2 minutes
6
Taste the drink and adjust sweetness by adding a pinch more powdered sugar if desired, stirring to dissolve completely.
1 minutes
7
Garnish the finished drink with a light dusting of ground cinnamon and nutmeg on top, and optionally add a cinnamon stick for stirring and presentation.
8
Serve immediately while hot, ensuring the mug is handled with care as it will be very warm.
