Steep Estate Banana Nut Bread
This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Steep Estate in Elmo, Texas in 1989.

Method

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan and set aside.

Cream together shortening and granulated sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Beat in the egg until fully incorporated.

Mash the soft bananas in a separate bowl until mostly smooth, then fold into the sugar mixture.

Whisk together all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl.

Gently fold the flour mixture into the banana mixture until just combined; do not overmix.

Fold in the walnuts until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

Bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
