Pat the trimmed asparagus dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, which helps them roast evenly.

Place asparagus on a rimmed baking sheet and drizzle with extra-virgin olive oil, tossing gently to coat evenly.

Season the asparagus with salt and black pepper, stirring to distribute seasonings uniformly.

Spread asparagus in a single layer on the baking sheet, arranging them in roughly the same direction for even cooking.
