Flapjacks

This is a popular dessert which can be made in less than an hour.

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking pan with margarine.

Combine margarine, soft brown sugar, and golden syrup in a large saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is fully melted and combined.

Remove the pan from heat and stir in the porridge oats, sultanas, and chopped nuts until evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

Pour the mixture into the prepared baking pan, pressing it down firmly and evenly with the back of a spoon to create a compact layer.

Bake for 20-25 minutes until the edges are golden brown but the center still appears slightly soft; the flapjacks will firm up as they cool.

Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then mark into 4 equal portions with a sharp knife while still warm.

Cool completely in the pan for at least 30 minutes before carefully lifting out and serving.
