The Good Burger

This is a hamburger with the works that make it a meal unto itself.

Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently form each into a patty about 3/4 inch thick, creating a slight indent in the center with your thumb to prevent the patty from puffing up during cooking.

Heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat until very hot, about 2 minutes.

Place the beef patties on the hot skillet and cook without moving them for 3-4 minutes until a brown crust forms on the bottom.

Flip the patties and immediately top each with one slice of American cheese, then cook for another 2-3 minutes until the desired doneness is reached and cheese is melted.

Remove the cooked patties from the skillet and let rest on a warm plate while you assemble the burgers.

Arrange the lightly toasted sesame buns on a work surface and lay down a base of sliced Walla Walla onions on the bottom bun of each.

Place one cheese-topped beef patty on the onions, then layer with 2 slices of cooked bacon and several slices of vine-ripened tomato.

Top each burger with 2 slices of avocado, then place the top sesame bun on each sandwich and serve immediately.
