Whisk together the milk, vanilla extract, black pepper, and spices of choice in a shallow bowl until well combined.

Dip each bread slice into the milk mixture, coating both sides evenly but ensuring they remain intact and not oversaturated.

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering.

Place the milk-soaked bread slices in the skillet and cook until the bottom is golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
