Method
1
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush a 9x13-inch baking dish with some of the melted butter to prevent sticking.
2
Cut the Italian or French bread into 2-inch cubes; arrange them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
3
Scatter the frozen mixed berries over the bread cubes, distributing them evenly throughout.
4
Whisk together the lightly beaten eggs, half and half, sugar, vanilla extract, and ground nutmeg in a large bowl until well combined.
5
Pour the melted butter into the egg mixture and whisk until fully incorporated.
6
Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread and berries, ensuring all bread pieces are moistened. Let sit for 5 minutes to allow the bread to absorb some liquid.

7
Pour the water into the bottom of a larger roasting pan, then carefully place the baking dish inside to create a water bath.
8
Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes until the custard is set but slightly jiggly in the center and the top is golden brown.

9
Remove the baking dish from the water bath and let rest for 10 minutes before serving warm.
