Hot Buttered Rum

Ingredients

  • peel of a lemon or orange
    1 unit
  • 1 whole
  • one tablespoon of brown sugar
    1 unit
  • a cinnamon stick
    1 unit
  • a shot of dark jamaican rum
    1 unit
  • half as much creme de cacao
    1 unit
  • pat of unsalted butter
    1 unit
  • 1 unit

Method

In a mug or heatproof glass, combine 1 tablespoon of softened butter, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, a pinch of ground nutmeg, and 2-3 whole cloves. Stir together to form a rough paste.

Heat water or apple cider in a small saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to steam and simmer, but do not bring to a full boil.

Pour 1.5 to 2 ounces of dark or spiced rum into the mug over the butter and spice mixture.

Carefully ladle or pour approximately 6 ounces of the hot water or cider into the mug, filling it nearly to the top.

Stir the mixture vigorously until the butter is fully melted and all ingredients are well combined into a smooth, uniform liquid.

Remove the whole cloves from the drink using a spoon. Grate a fresh pinch of nutmeg over the top of the drink as a garnish.
