Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Combine the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a large mixing bowl, stirring until evenly distributed.

Crack the egg into a separate small bowl and beat lightly with a fork until combined.

Pour the melted butter and beaten egg into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined into a thick batter with no dry streaks remaining.

Pour the batter into a greased 8-inch baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.

Bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
