splenda granular

SweetenersYear-round

Splenda Granular contains zero calories and zero grams of sugar per serving, making it suitable for calorie-restricted and diabetic diets. It does not spike blood glucose levels and is non-cariogenic.

About

Splenda Granular is a branded formulation of sucralose, a zero-calorie artificial sweetener first developed in 1976 by Tate & Lyle. The product consists of sucralose as the active ingredient blended with maltodextrin and cellulose, which add bulk to mimic the volume and texture of granulated sugar. Sucralose is produced through selective chlorination of sucrose, replacing three hydroxyl groups with chlorine atoms, resulting in a compound approximately 600 times sweeter than sucrose. The granular form is designed for easy measurement and direct substitution in recipes without requiring conversion calculations.

The ingredient is chemically stable at room temperature but partially decomposes at high temperatures (above 350°F/175°C), which can affect its sweetening properties in prolonged baking or cooking applications. Splenda Granular is odorless and dissolves readily in water and most other liquids.

Culinary Uses

Splenda Granular is widely used as a sugar substitute in home baking, beverages, and food preparation by consumers seeking to reduce caloric intake or manage blood glucose levels. It is commonly employed in cakes, cookies, beverages, desserts, and everyday sweetening applications. Due to its physical similarity to sugar, it measures cup-for-cup in most recipes, though some adjustments may be needed for browning, texture development, or moisture content. It is less suitable for caramel-making, candy, or applications requiring prolonged high-temperature cooking where the sucralose may degrade or impart an off-taste.
