About

The almond (Prunus dulcis) is the edible seed of the drupe fruit of the almond tree, native to the Mediterranean and South Asia. The nut's composition—approximately 50% fat (predominantly monounsaturated), 20% protein, and 20% carbohydrates—makes it nutritionally distinct among tree nuts. Modern cultivation, particularly in California's Central Valley, has produced refined varieties such as Nonpareil and Carmel that are prized for their mild flavor and consistent size, while Spanish and Mediterranean cultivars often display more pronounced nuttiness.
