round spring tin

OtherYear-round

A round spring tin has no nutritional value, as it is a baking vessel rather than a food ingredient.

About

A round spring tin, also known as a springform pan or removable-sided baking tin, is a circular baking vessel with a detachable outer ring that fastens to the base with a spring-loaded clamp. The base consists of a flat, typically non-removable bottom disk, while the sidewall releases cleanly when the clamp is unfastened, allowing for easy removal of delicate baked goods without inversion or damage to their surface presentation.

The standard round spring tin measures 8–10 inches (20–25 cm) in diameter and 2.5–3 inches (6–7.5 cm) in height, though larger sizes up to 12 inches are available. Most professional and domestic models are constructed from steel with non-stick coatings, though aluminum and ceramic versions exist. The spring mechanism provides even pressure around the circumference, ensuring consistent sidewall contact during baking.

Culinary Uses

Round spring tins are essential for cheesecakes, layered desserts, tiramisu, and other no-bake or custard-based fillings that require structural support during preparation but are too delicate to invert for unmolding. The removable sidewall allows elegant presentation of creamy or crumbly-topped desserts with minimal handling. These pans are also used for individual vegetable tarts, quiches, and savory preparations that benefit from clean, vertical sides. Because the base remains in place during baking, spring tins work well for recipes that require a pre-pressed crumb crust foundation.
