package slivered almonds

Nuts & SeedsYear-round. Almonds are harvested in late summer and early fall (August-October in California), then dried and processed for year-round availability. Slivered almonds have excellent shelf stability when stored in cool, dry conditions.

Slivered almonds are excellent sources of plant-based protein, fiber, and healthy monounsaturated fats. They are also rich in vitamin E, magnesium, and antioxidants, supporting heart and bone health.

About

Slivered almonds are thin, elongated cuts of blanched almonds (the edible seeds of Prunus dulcis, a tree native to the Mediterranean and Central Asia). Blanching removes the brown skin, leaving the pale white kernel, which is then sliced lengthwise into thin, flat pieces approximately 1-2mm thick. The resulting product has a mild, slightly sweet flavor with delicate, buttery undertones and a tender, crisp texture when dry. Slivered almonds are produced by mechanical slicing and are sold raw, roasted, or sometimes sweetened for immediate consumption.

The characteristic elongated shape and small size make slivered almonds distinct from other almond cuts such as slices (which are thinner, cross-sectional cuts) or chunks (larger, irregular pieces).

Culinary Uses

Slivered almonds are widely used in both sweet and savory applications across global cuisines. In baking, they are sprinkled on pastries, cakes, breads, and cookies, or incorporated into fillings for Danish pastries and tarts. They appear frequently in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes—as garnishes for rice pilafs, in couscous preparations, and in salads. In Asian cuisines, particularly Indian cooking, they feature prominently in biryanis, curries, and desserts such as kheer. Slivered almonds add textural contrast when toasted and used as toppings for grain bowls, yogurts, and desserts. They are also candied or honey-roasted for confectionery applications.

In the kitchen, toasting slivered almonds briefly (3-5 minutes at 350°F/175°C) intensifies their flavor before use, while their small size allows them to incorporate evenly into batters and mixtures.
