About

Peanuts (Arachis hypogaea) are legume seeds native to South America that grow in underground pods and are among the most widely cultivated legume crops globally. Despite their common name, peanuts are botanically distinct from tree nuts, belonging to the Fabaceae family. Dry-roasted peanuts have been heated in their shells or after shelling without added oil, developing a deep, toasted flavor and brittle texture. When coarsely chopped, the roasted kernels are fractured into irregular pieces, typically ranging from one-quarter to one-half of a whole peanut, exposing the interior while maintaining some structural integrity.

Culinary Uses

Coarsely chopped dry-roasted peanuts are used as a textural and flavor component in both sweet and savory applications across numerous cuisines. They are commonly sprinkled over salads, grain bowls, and Asian noodle dishes for crunch and protein; incorporated into trail mixes and granola; used as a topping for ice cream and desserts; and mixed into savory snack blends. In Southeast Asian cooking, they feature prominently in satay sauces, curry preparations, and garnishes for soups and street food. The coarse chop preserves the toasted flavor while providing distinct textural contrast to softer components.
