coarsely chopped slivered almonds
Rich in vitamin E, magnesium, and healthy monounsaturated fats. Slivered almonds provide dietary fiber and are a good plant-based source of protein.
About
Almonds (Prunus amygdalus) are the edible seeds of the almond tree, a member of the Rosaceae family native to the Mediterranean and Central Asia. Slivered almonds are whole almonds that have been blanched (with the skin removed) and cut lengthwise into thin, elongated strips. When coarsely chopped, these slivers are further fragmented into irregular, bite-sized pieces that retain more texture than finely ground almonds. Slivered almonds have a mild, slightly sweet, and buttery flavor with a delicate crunch.
Culinary Uses
Coarsely chopped slivered almonds are widely used as both a garnish and textural ingredient across numerous cuisines. In European baking, they appear atop cakes, cookies, and pastries; in Middle Eastern cuisine, they feature prominently in pilafs, grain dishes, and desserts. They contribute nutty flavor and pleasant crunch to salads, grain bowls, and roasted vegetable dishes. When toasted before use, their flavor intensifies significantly. They are also incorporated into sweet and savory sauces, and used as a coating for fish or poultry.
