Method

1
Measure out all spices — paprika, chili powder, cayenne, dried basil, and dried thyme — into individual small bowls or onto a clean work surface for easy assembly.
3 minutes
2
Toast the paprika, chili powder, and cayenne in a dry skillet over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until fragrant and slightly darkened. This takes about 1 to 2 minutes; watch carefully to avoid burning.
2 minutes
3
Remove the toasted spices from the heat and transfer them immediately to a clean mixing bowl to stop the cooking process.
1 minutes
4
Add the dried basil and dried thyme to the bowl with the toasted spices, crumbling the herbs lightly between your fingers to release their aromatic oils.
2 minutes
5
Stir or whisk all the spices and herbs together thoroughly until the blend is uniform in color and texture with no visible clumps.
2 minutes
6
Taste a small pinch of the blend and adjust the heat level by adding more cayenne or balance by adding more paprika according to your preference.
2 minutes
7
Allow the spice blend to cool completely to room temperature before transferring it to an airtight jar or sealed container.
5 minutes
8
Label the container with the blend name and date, then store in a cool, dark place for up to six months for optimal potency and freshness.
