Combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of milk in a large pot over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally to prevent burning on the bottom.

Slowly pour the 9 ounces of cornmeal into the boiling liquid while stirring constantly with a wooden spoon or whisk to prevent lumps from forming.
