Add 8 cups of water to a slow cooker and stir in the 2 cups of steel-cut oats, ½ teaspoon of salt, ¼ cup of maple syrup, ½ cup of dried blueberries, and 1 cup of dried cranberries until well combined.

Cover the slow cooker and set it to low heat for 8 hours, stirring occasionally if possible to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.

Check the oatmeal for desired consistency near the end of cooking; add more water if a thinner texture is preferred, or continue cooking if a thicker consistency is desired.
