- block of firm tofu1/2 large
- Couple dashes of turmeric1 unit
- Splash of liquid aminos1 unit
- of nutritional yeast flakes1 Pinch
- Oil (for the pan)1 unit
Method

Grate the medium-sized coconut finely using a box grater or food processor.

Combine the puttu powder and grated coconut in a large mixing bowl.

Add salt to taste and mix the dry ingredients together.

Gradually add water to the flour mixture while mixing with your fingers until the texture resembles crumbly wet sand with no lumps.

Fill a puttu maker (cylindrical mold) or bamboo steamer with the moistened flour mixture, pressing it down gently to compact it.

Place the puttu maker vertically on a steaming vessel filled with boiling water, ensuring the base is above the water level.

Steam for 10-12 minutes until the puttu is cooked through and a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.

Push the puttu out of the mold onto a serving plate or cutting board using the pusher handle.

Slice the puttu into 1-inch thick rounds and serve hot with curry, dal, or sambar.
