Ingredients

Pour 1 cup of water into a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

Add 2 cups of granulated sugar to the boiling water and stir continuously until all sugar dissolves completely, about 2-3 minutes.

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sugar solution cool for 5 minutes until it reaches a safe handling temperature.

Dampen the heavy cord with water and roll it in granulated sugar to create a seed base for crystal formation.

Tie one end of the sugared cord to a pencil or wooden stick and suspend it into a clean glass jar so the cord hangs in the center without touching the bottom or sides.

Carefully pour the warm sugar solution into the jar around the cord, filling it about three-quarters full.

Cover the jar loosely with a paper towel or cheesecloth to protect from dust while allowing slow evaporation.

Place the jar in a cool, undisturbed location away from direct sunlight and allow crystals to grow for 3-7 days, checking daily for growth.
