Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Cream together the butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl until the mixture is light and fluffy, approximately 3-4 minutes of beating.

Add the beaten eggs to the creamed mixture and blend well until fully incorporated.

In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and grated nutmeg.

Alternate adding the dry ingredients and water to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.

Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden and the tops are set.

Remove the baking sheets from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the pan for 2-3 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
