ProducePrimarily available from November through April in Northern Hemisphere markets, reflecting the Southern Hemisphere growing season in New Zealand; available year-round in some specialty markets due to storage and distribution practices.

About

Zespri Gold® is a patented cultivar of Actinidia chinensis, the golden kiwifruit species, developed through selective breeding by Zespri International. Originating from New Zealand, this variety is characterized by a smooth, thin, edible golden-yellow skin and pale yellow flesh with a distinctive sweet flavor profile that is notably less acidic than green kiwifruit. The fruit is smaller and rounder than green varieties, typically weighing 75-100 grams, with a smooth texture throughout without the prominent seeds of other kiwis. The flavor combines tropical notes of mango and passion fruit with subtle vanilla undertones, and the flesh is creamy rather than fibrous.

Culinary Uses

Zespri Gold® kiwis are consumed primarily as fresh fruit, either eaten whole (with skin) or halved and scooped. Their smooth texture and sweeter flavor make them suitable for fruit salads, smoothie bowls, desserts, and as garnishes for both sweet and savory dishes. The thin, edible skin and lack of tartness distinguish them from green kiwis, making them approachable for those who prefer mild, naturally sweet fruits. They pair well with other tropical fruits, creamy dairy products, and can be incorporated into baking applications, though their delicate texture is best preserved through minimal cooking.
