Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a muffin tin with paper cases.

Combine milk, golden syrup, and butter in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the butter melts and the mixture is warm.

Mix mixed spice, cinnamon, salt, and raw sugar together in a large bowl.

Stir baking bran flakes into the spice mixture, then add the mixed fruit and toss to combine evenly.

Dissolve baking soda into the warm milk mixture and pour immediately over the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cases, filling each about three-quarters full.

Bake for 20 minutes until the muffins are risen and a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove muffins from the oven and allow to cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Dust the cooled muffins with icing sugar and top each with a red and green glace cherry before serving.
