- package active dry yeast (2¼ teaspoons)1¼ oz

- lukewarm water (40-45°C)1 cup
- all-purpose flour (reserve 1 tablespoon if mixing by hand)3 cups

Measure out the desired amount of granulated sugar into a clean, dry tall glass. A standard serving typically uses 2 to 3 tablespoons of sugar.

Add a small amount of warm water (about 2 tablespoons) to the sugar in the glass. Stir vigorously until the sugar is fully dissolved and a clear syrup forms.

Fill the tall glass with chilled still or sparkling water, pouring slowly to preserve carbonation if using sparkling water. Leave about an inch of space at the top.

Gently stir the mixture from the bottom upward to evenly distribute the dissolved sugar syrup throughout the drink. Be careful not to over-stir if using sparkling water.

Add ice cubes to the glass if a chilled serving temperature is desired. Fill to just below the rim of the glass.
