Papaya Oatmeal Squares

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Sift together first three ingredients.
  3. Add brown sugar.
  4. Cut in butter until mixture is consistency of cornmeal.
  5. Add oats and mix well.
  6. Press half of mixture into oiled 6" x 11" rectangular or 9" round pan.
  7. Combine papaya, sugar, lime or lemon juice, and nuts and spread over crumb mixture.
  8. Sprinkle remaining crumb mixture over fruit layer and press evenly with hands.
  9. Bake for 40 minutes.
  10. Cool in pan.
  11. Cut in small squares, rectangles, or triangles.
