An Italian fresh mozzarella cheese that is formed into small cherry tomato shaped portions and packed in water or brine. The cheese works well to complement other flavors added to salads with olive oils and fresh herbs, or when added to dishes requiring a cheese that melts well to become somewhat elastic, rather than soaking into or crisping around the food dish. Also referred to as ciliegine.
