Horse produce a meat that is sweet, tender, low in fat, and high in protein. Just like beef and pork, in some societies there is a taboo regarding the consumption of horse meat.

Horse meat has about 40% less calories than even the leanest beef, while supplying 50% more protein and up to 30% more iron.[citation needed]
