A large, almost oval-shaped paddle made of wood or metal, which is used to hold a pizza when placing it into and removing it from an oven. This device enables pizzas and breads to easily slide off onto a baking or pizza stone. Generally, cornmeal is sprinkled onto the surface of the peel to improve the ease of sliding the pizza off the peel and onto the baking stone. This device is also called a baker's peel.
